Hi there,
I’m John Perry, the founder of Ducky Software, and today I want to share some important news about our Android version.
Earlier this year, I shared that alongside the development of Version 12 on Apple platforms, we planned to bring Android users a Material 3 Expressive update. Unfortunately, over time the Android app has become increasingly difficult to maintain and is no longer sustainable for us to support at the level of quality you’ve come to expect from Ducky Software. In its current state, it’s not a product we feel proud of.
After careful evaluation, we’ve determined that moving the Android app forward would require a complete rewrite of the codebase from the ground up something that isn’t feasible for us right now. After consultation with various involved parties we have decided to remove the Android version from the Play Store for the time being until we can create a product at the level of quality you can expect.
Unfortunately this means that effective immediately at the time of publication the Android version will change to "unpublished" on the Play Store.
What this means for Android users is:
If you already have Second Voice installed, you can continue using the app in its current state for the time being.
However, the app will no longer be available for new downloads or reinstallation from the Play Store.
The app will not receive further updates, improvements, or bug fixes.
It's important to note that our support through the Google for Startups Cloud Program is not changing, and we remain grateful for the resources and guidance they continue to provide.
We understand this may be disappointing, especially for those who rely on the Android version daily. This decision was not made lightly, but it allows us to focus our resources on delivering a high quality experience where we can be most effective.
We’ll share updates in the future if and when we’re in a position to bring a rebuilt Android experience to you.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
All the best,
John
